Dr. Peter A. Omenda

Managing Director

Dr. Omenda has over 28 years experience in geothermal exploration and development. He graduated with B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in geology at the University of Nairobi, Diploma in Geothermal Technology from University of Auckland, New Zealand and PhD from University of Texas at El Paso. He also has an MBA degree.  

He worked for KenGen where he participated in the development of Olkaria geothermal projects and was part of a consulting team for Olkaria III power plant developed by Ormat International. When he worked at GDC, he was involved in the development of Menengai geothermal field and Baringo – Silali project.

Dr. Omenda has published widely in international journals and publications in the field of geothermal science and development and has participated in consultancy services in many countries in Africa. He is a director of the International Geothermal Association (IGA).

Michael M. Mbevi

Director, Engineering Services

Mr. Michael Mbevi has over 20 years’ experience in geothermal drilling engineering and development of geothermal energy projects.

Mr. Mbevi holds a B.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nairobi, post graduate Diploma in Geothermal Energy Technology from the University of Auckland, New Zealand and an MBA degree in Project Management from Kenyatta University. He also attended Certificate course in Contracts Administration & Management from International Law Institute, Washington DC, USA.

Mr. Mbevi worked with Kenya Power & Lighting Co. Ltd as a maintenance engineer for the hydro and thermal power plants for 2 years before joining KenGen where he worked for 12 years as a drilling engineer at Olkaria geothermal project. He participated in the drilling of most of the wells supplying steam to Olkaria II, IV, V power plants. Mr. Mbevi joined Geothermal Development Company in 2009 as a Manager in-charge of drilling operations where he led a team of drilling engineers that drilled over 30 wells with over 130MWe steam equivalent in a record period of of 3 years.

He was involved in geothermal drilling consultancy services in Karisimbi geothermal area in Rwanda and geothermal cementing services for Aluto-Langano geothermal field in Ethiopia. Mr. Mbevi also has experience in the management of donor funded projects.

Cyrus Njungu

Director, Power Systems

Mr. Njungu has over 40 years’ experience in design, construction, operations and maintenance and tender documentation in various categories of overhead lines and substations in Kenya.

He has a B.Sc. Eng. Degree in Electrical Engineering, University of Nairobi; BSc Economics (Hons)-University of London and Post Graduate Diploma-Management Studies at the Kenya Institute of Management.

He previously worked for the Kenya Power and Lighting Co. Ltd where he was the Manager in charge of design and construction of power infrastructure and later worked as a consultant in various electricity projects in Kenya and overseas.

He is experienced in design of LV and HV distribution lines, transmission lines and building of sub-stations. He was also a consultant for the World Bank and AFD funded electricity projects in Kenya. He has had brief work experience in countries such as Sudan, Rwanda, Sweden, Finland, Pakistan, Slovenia, South Africa, Ghana and Egypt.
